BLIZZARD 2006

The view from the front door. The van is on the left. The top picture was taken this afternoon as the storm wound down. I would have taken a picture through that window earlier, but there was ice frozen to it so I could barely see out the window, much less take a good picture.

We woke up to white out conditions this morning- we could barely see the houses across the street. The wind was so crazy, it was pretty hard to see how much snow we actually got. I'm guessing 12"+. Today was the beginning day of Tim's company's annual conference (thankfully here in town this year). I really wanted to go with him and stay at the Broadmoor (the only 5 star hotel in Co) but I also didn't want to risk taking my children into a potentially life threatening situation by taking them out into the horrible conditions. Tim attempted to leave today around 1pm and got stuck about 1/2 block away. Conditions cleared a little and then he left around 6pm and arrived safely at the hotel about an hour later. I'll meet him tomorrow with the children. Tomorrow's forcast says it will be 55 degrees here. Only in Colorado.

Looking out the front door

Can barely see the nieghbors across the street huh? Did I mention that Divide received 28 inches!

Dabney wanted to go outside with Daddy

She was dying to go make a snowman with Daddy as he was going off to work. You can't tell from the picture, but when she got herself all dressed up to go outside, she was wearing her Crocs.

Crawling is hard work!

The other night when I took these pictures, David was being so sweet and smiling for the camera. I got up to wash the last of the dinner dishes (Tim was with Dabney reading on the couch) and I came back after I finished the dishes and I found this- David asleep on the floor in mid-crawl.

My SnuggieBear

He's going to hate that nickname in about 17 years.

Anyway, he's just so cuddly and he loves to snuggle with his Mama.

Dabney's ready for the CANDY season

Can you imagine what she would be like if she knew what "Trick or Treating" was?

70 days until...

CHRISTMAS!

I can't wait. Tim and I did our Christmas budget last Saturday at Starbucks- this is the official opening of the Christmas holiday at the Giedd house. We even ordered our Christmas cards on Friday night. I can pick them up on Wednesday! I went back to one of my favorite web sites organizedchristmas.com and printed out a whole slew of helpful work sheets to put in my Christmas Organizer binder, like the christmas card list, and the catalog order sheet and the master gift list, and there are even sheets to help you clean your house! I highly recommend it.

On a side note, as you realize, I was very pregnant this time last year. I thought that my early Christmas decorating and planning last year was part of the nesting phase. I think I was wrong.

Great recipe!

I've been searching for a good 3 bean salad recipe for a few weeks and I think I found it! It's low carb, too, if you're into that sort of thing.

THREE BEAN SALAD

1 can (15 oz) garbanzo beans (chickpeas), drained and rinsed
1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drianed and rinsed
1 can (15 oz) green beans, drained and rinsed
4 green onions, chopped
1 stalk celery, sliced
1/2 c. cider vinegar
1/4 c. vegetable oil
1 Tbsp. honey
1/2 Tsp dry mustard
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

In a medium bowl, combine all of the beans, onions and celery. In another bowl, whisk together the vinegar, oil, honey, and spices.

Pour the dressing over the salad and toss gently to coat. Refrigerate at least 2 hours before eating.

******************************
I just realized while typing this out, that I never added the vinegar. So, just in case you're wondering, yes, it can be made without the vinegar. Also, I didn't have any green onions so I added about 1/2 c. of yellow onion.

Last video of the night

Ok, I'm exhausted, but here's one last one of David crawling. Enjoy! (it took over 90 minutes to upload!) Goodnight!

Another video!

Night night, Dabney!

Brotherly Love

Can you tell yet that I'm rather taken with these two?

My big girl

Isn't she beautiful? This morning before church was a good time to take some pictures while we were all clean and ready for church.

I love Autumn in Colorado. (I never thought I'd say that.)

This is a "Burning Bush" in the front yard by the porch.

This is one of the back yard trees. Its a maple. (Please disregard the construction in the background)
This one is the front yard tree. I'm not positive, but I think it's also a maple. Actually, maybe it's an ash tree. Mom, I bet you could tell me.

Did I mention that David can clap now? Yep, he's a genius- he get's it from his Mama! Ha! Look at that smiling face! Couldn't you just eat him up!

Hello, My Name is Mandie

And I am addicted to my Goodwill. ("Hi Mandie")

Ok, it began very innocently. I'd go every now and then when the kids needed something. Like shoes. I've found a few pairsof unused black mary jane shoes for Dabney and very cute little Buster Browns for when David is older. God has always been so good to us to provide exactly what we need. I've found Gymboree overalls for David and Gap dresses for Dabney. Then there are the books. I've found so many great hardback books there. Books that are on Dabney future reading list and beautiful picture books that we love to read now before she goes to bed. I've found maternity dresses from Motherhood. Then, as some of you know, Goodwill has supplied me with old chairs that I refinished and painted for our dining room table. This last trip wasn't long, we were dropping off some of our old things and while Tim unloaded it, I ran inside to see what I could find (we'd love to find a console table). The trip was only about 10 minutes but look what I found! Two little man shirts from Gymboree and 2 very sweet dresses! All together for under $4. Actually, I was in Gymboree a few weeks ago and I honestly almost bought the little Hawaiian shirt but I could not afford it. I think it was $12 on clearance. I bought it at Goodwill and paid $0.55. Ha! It was ON SALE at Goodwill!

I confessed to my husband this morning that I really wanted to go back today and see what else I can find, but he said no and he said he was sending me "Savings" vibes! (We really need to save money.)

Would anyone like to be my sponsor?

P.S. Tim saw the dresses and said, " Honey, They are sweet dresses, but I really don't think either will fit Dabney". I said, "They aren't for Dabney" with a grin. But, no, we have no announcements yet.
